UPOU-FMDS Conducts Data Collection in Barangays of Pitogo, Quezon and Glinoga Integrated Farm

 

Key informant interviews (KII) with LGU officials of Pitogo, Quezon for UPOU-FMDS' research project on women-led permaculture funded by DOST-PCAARRD.

Visiting a community garden led by the Fruits and Vegetables Growers Association of Brgy. Nag-Cruz in Pitogo, Quezon. This is part of the Food Share Program sponsored by Okada Foundation Inc. in partnership with Kabisig ng Kalahi and DSWD. The community gardeners were interviewed by the UPOU-FMDS research team on women-led permaculture funded by DOST-PCAARRD.

Focus Group Discussion on the roles of women and men in HAPAG community gardens with members of the 4K Federation of Brgy. Pinagbayanan, Pitogo, Quezon. We also conducted a baselining survey on permaculture knowledge, attitude, and perception.

The morning activities were facilitated by UPOU-FMDS researchers, Raizza Alforja and Tiffany Catbagan.

The afternoon activities were facilitated by UPOU-FMDS researchers, Raizza Alforja and Tiffany Catbagan with assistance from local coordinator, Madelyn Baltazar.

After a long day in the field, the Fruits and Vegetables Growers Association (FVGA) accompanied UPOU-FMDS research team to Backyard ni Queenbee, one of the farms recommended by the Municipal Tourism Office. The owner/farmer/entrepreneur, Ms. Gayzil Lorica, was a former member of the FVGA. She was also a student of Ms. Weng Glinoga of Glinoga Integrated Farm.

Data collection in Glinoga Integrated Farm for our research on women-led permaculture. Key informant interviews, focus group discussion on seasonal calendar, and drone mapping were conducted by the research team from UPOU-FMDS. The permaculture site, led by Ms. Weng Glinoga, represents the agriculture sector for this project funded by DOST-PCAARRD.

UPOU Perma Team Attends the 2025 Philippine Permaculture Convergence in Quezon City

The last time I attended was in 2019 in Holy Name University in Bohol and 2018 in UP Los Banos in Laguna.

Happy to see familiar faces and people I've only seen online. There were UPOU PSDT (Permaculture Systems Design Thinking) students/alumni--JG Adorna and one of the plenary speakers, current NOAP director Bernadette San Juan; UPOU collaborators Philippine Permaculture Association and Rights of Nature PH; Permaculture Research PH people Sherry Anne Gocheco and Karla Delgado of Kai Farms; Asha Peri and Tita Ludz of Subli Farms--I met them during my PhD fieldwork; people I've met in previous convergences TL Naing (sorry we were not able to listen to your session!), Julius Ong of Hiraya Farm Resort, and Sixto Bereber of Solution: Permaculture; some people we connected with at the UPOU-FMDS Perma GARDEN Luna Rosal, Zaldy M. Bautista of Radyo Veritas, and Hubert Posadas of BAGANIHAN National Volunteer Force (I finally me you in person!); Sarah Mae Sabado of Global Seed Savers and Kuys Joms were there also; and of course, PSDT co-course coordinator Bert Peeters was there at the helm. Did I forget to mention anyone? There were so many people!

Glinoga Integrated Farm: Initial Visit to Pitogo, Quezon for DOST-funded "Women-Led Permaculture" Project

 

Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing with Ms. Nenieveh "Weng" Glinoga of Glinoga Integrated Farm, our partner permaculture farm representing the Agricultural sector in Pitogo, Quezon.

This is a two-year research project on women-led permaculture by FMDS-UPOU funded by DOST-PCAARRD.

Site tour and initial drone mapping of Glinoga Integrated Farm. The rains were on and off the entire day. Good thing we had an hour's worth of good weather. We brought the walkie-talkies this time and Tiff was my spotter. Raiz was the photographer and Mam Weng guided us. Good job by the mapping team!
