Applying EM and Other Monday Garden Activities

Here's Yurim, a neighborhood kid, helping with the trimming of weeds

I transplanted 6 paminta seedlings from Ato Belen's farm and lined them against my fence

After three hours of work, here's what the garden looked like

My raised bed for the lettuce is now ready. I sprinkled the EM and Fish Emulsion solution on the dry mulch for good measure

I covered my pathways with dry mulch to suppress weed growth and prevent mud formation

Last Saturday, I joined a field trip to San Pablo and Calauan organized by the UPOU Organic Agriculture course for its second batch of students. Learning never stops, so my batch 1 classmate, Edu, and I joined the new batch of students. It was very nice to meet the new students. It was encouraging to see like-minded and passionate people coming together for an activity like this.

After a very busy week, I was finally able to do a lot of garden chores today. I sprayed Lactobac (organic effective microorganism) on all of my plots. I followed the 2 tablespoons for every liter of water ratio every 3 to 5 days. if the EM works well, I'll get more at Ato Belen's Farm. I finished the raised beds for my lettuce, basil, and tomato. And I also planted the paminta that I bought from ABF. I also put dry mulch on my pathways to supress weed growth and formation of mud.

The OA planner that was given to us by Doc Bes after the field trio was very helpful for planning farm activities. It also includes a planting calendar and a logbook for planting activities.

Future plans:
1) Develop a good system for garbage segregation for the apartment compound
2) A paper recycling center to make new paper
3) A compost bin field for the production of organic compost out of organic household waste
